Constitution of Watermark

Adopted:

Preamble:  “…And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  (Mark 12: 30,31)

I.                    Definition

A.     Name

Watermark Youth Ministry

B.     Objectives

1. To promote fellowship in the Christian sense

2. To educate in the matters of Christian Faith

3. To serve in Christian Charity

C.     Mission Statement

To better serve those who serve God through the above stated objectives by bringing together, organizing, and form cooperation in the different youth groups to better seek and serve God and His Kingdom

III.               Organization of Watermark Youth Ministry

A.     Membership

Section 1:  Any participant in Watermark groups as specified in Article IV, C in accordance with the Bylaws will be considered a member with full rights and privileges of Watermark member

Section 2: Basic Rights and Privileges of Watermark members

B.     Watermark Executive Council

Section 1: Meetings will be called as necessary by the Chair with time and place to be determined on a per meeting basis.  Notifications for meetings must be sent out at least one month in advance so that the necessary parties may arrange to send a representative.

Section 2: Each group as specified in Article IV, C will be represented at the meetings. 

Section 3: Meetings are open to anyone interested.  Guests are those that attend the meetings and are not heads of committees, representatives of Watermark groups as specified in Article IV, C, nor council officers are referred to as “guests.”

Part (a) Guests have no voting voice

Part (b) Guests may only speak when recognized by the Chair

Part (c) Guests will be asked to leave if their presence becomes a distraction

Section 4: Meetings will be run in accordance as set in Article V.

C.     Watermark Executive Council Offices

Section 1: Exec Offices in General

All Executive council offices will be Ex-Officio in Watermark Youth Ministry meetings.  Exec council offices do not and should not represent the interests of any specific group in Watermark Youth Ministry (as defined in Article IV, C) while serving as Exec council officer.  The only exceptions to this rule are if the exec council officer attends the meeting with the clear intention of representing the interest of a specific group of Watermark.  Term of Office is for one (1) year.  Offices must be approved by 75% majority of the Exec Council.

Section 2: Office of Isabel (Chair). 

First role is to represent the interests of all the different groups under Watermark to SJCCC, St. Clare’s, and/or any other persons inquiring.  Calls meetings when necessary and prepares agenda.  Tends to specific needs of each group as necessary in accordance with the defined objectives and mission statement (Article I, B/C)

Section 3: Office of Scribe

Takes minutes of all Exec meetings as called.  Acts as Sergeant-At-Arms to enforce rules of order for meetings.  Organizes the common calendar of events for Watermark

Section 4: Vacancies

In case of vacancies in the office of Scribe, the Isabel may appoint an ad-hoc scribe for the meeting, or appoint a new Scribe.

Section 5: New Offices

New exec offices may be created as necessary with the approval of the council.  New exec offices will be subject to conditions as set in Article III, C, Section1

Section 1:  Watermark Young Adult Group (YAG)

Represented at the exec council by their Chairperson

Specific guidelines as outlined in the Bylaws as well as the Watermark YAG Constitution if it exists.

Section 2:  Watermark High School

a.  Bible Study

Represented at the exec council by their Chairperson

Specific guidelines as outlined in the Bylaws as well as the Watermark Bible Study Constitution if it exists.

b.   Religious Education

Represented at the exec council by their Chairperson

Specific guidelines as outlined in the Bylaws as well as the Watermark Religious Education Constitution if it exists.

D.     Sacred Heart CCD

This affiliation most specifically affects 9th/10th Grade Religious Education (Confirmation)

E.      Advisors

V.                 Methods of Operation

A.     Agenda

Agendas are set by the Isabel prior to a meeting’s call-to-order.

Agendas must begin and end with prayer.

B.     Attendance

Representation of all groups (preferably by the Chairperson of that group) must be present for exec council meeting to be valid.

VI.              Voting

Section 1:  Each group as defined in Article IV, C will each have one vote.

Section 1:  Committees will also have one vote on topics that relate to their specific interests.

VIII.         Constitution and Bylaws: Procedure for Action

A.     Ratification

Section 1: Constitution

This constitution must be approved by all groups involved as mentioned at the time of draft (Watermark YAG, Watermark High School)

Section 2: Bylaws

Bylaws must be approved by each individual group they pertain to, as well as the Isabel of the exec council.

B.     Amendments

Section 1: Amendments must be proposed in writing

Section 2: Amendments must be presented at a formal exec council meeting.

Section 3:  Amendments must pass with 75% majority

Section 4:  After passing, date of adoption must be noted when being added to this constitution.

 

 

 

 

Bylaws

I.                    Watermark YAG

A.     Membership

Section 1:  Requirements

Member’s age must be within the range of 18-34

B.     Meetings

Section 1: Time, place

General meetings take place at specific Watermark YAG events, where the general membership have been notified and invited to (ie. Bible Study, etc.)

Section 2: Exec meetings

Meetings are called by the President as necessary

C.     Offices and Duties

Section 1: President

Duties include representing the Watermark YAG, coordinating topics and facilitation of Bible studies as well as other events, tend to specific needs of the membership.

II.                 Watermark High School Bible Study

A.     Membership

Section 1:  Requirements

Member must be a student in high school and registered with SJCCC.

B.     Meetings

Section 1: Regular meetings are usually on Saturday nights at St. Clare’s school, room #4 at 7:30 and ends at 9:30 for the purpose of worship, Scripture study, and fellowship.

Section 2: Board meetings

Board meetings are called as necessary by the exec officers of the Bible study

Section 3: Special meetings

Special meetings are called as necessary by the Bible study team

C.     Offices and Duties

Section 1: Advisor

Advisor must be over the age of 18, with the availability and commitment to see to the needs of the membership.  The advisor gives feedback and offers ideas, and represents the group to the adult community.  Must also keep account of all Watermark Bible Study activities.

Section 2: Bible Study Team

Bible study team members consist of Juniors and Seniors in high school.  Team members plan and prepare all Bible study meetings as well as other special activities as they see necessary.  They represent the Bible study group to the general community.

III.               Watermark High School Religious Education

A.     Membership

Section 1:  Members must be a high school student, registered with SJCCC and attend after-Mass Sunday religious classes.  Status of membership is determined by the class instructors

B.     Meetings

Section 1: Regular meetings take place in St. Clare’s classrooms after Sunday Holy Mass at approximately 4:15pm and ends at 5:15pm.

Section 2: Board meetings are called as necessary by instructors, or the head instructor.

Section 3: Special meetings are called as necessary by the instructors (ie. field trips, retreats, etc.)

C.     Offices and Duties

Section 1: Head Instructor

Duties include representing the religious education group of Watermark to the general community.  Keeps account of teaching plans of all instructors.

                        Section 2:  Instructors

Draws up teaching plan and teaches each class during the school year.  Each instructor is responsible for their teaching plan.
